Microsoft has warned Windows 10 users that recent updates come with a number of bugs, and a flaw reportedly prevents people from updating Office products due to a certificate loss issue.
After downloading the October 2020 updates, some Windows 10 users received an error message saying: “Office 365 file download failed, error =”, and Microsoft has not yet revealed a workaround for the problem, which means that people have to uninstall the wrong Windows Update, Then update Office, then reinstall the Windows patch.
Microsoft engineer David James tweeted about the issue, where he said: The issue appears to be caused by Windows 10 updates that fail the certificate, preventing Memcm and Configuration Manager from downloading Office updates.
For Microsoft, the Office update error isn't the only issue users have had with their Windows patches lately. There have also been reports of Windows 10 October patches causing problems with File Explorer and even the dreaded blue screen of death. Microsoft did not comment on these system crash issues, but acknowledged the possibility of losing system and user certificates during the update process.
Microsoft support document says: “This primarily occurs when managed devices are updated using outdated packages or media through an update management tool, such as: Windows Server Update Services or Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, and may also occur when using outdated physical media or ISO images that do not contain the latest built-in updates.”
Microsoft recommends that users install patches for their operating system using the official Windows Update service, rather than any other method, to reduce the possibility of a problem.
It is worth noting that since Microsoft launched the Edge browser last January, the company has become more interested in supporting it with many new features; To seriously compete with the Chrome browser from Google, especially since the Edge browser, which is based on the Chromium engine, has found great popularity with users. Recently, Microsoft announced a great new feature coming to the browser: Vertical Tabs, which allows users to move the tab bar from the top to the left side of the screen in a vertical layout.
