The UAE candidate for the presidency of "Interpol"... Who is Major General Ahmed Al Raisi?

It is expected that the General Assembly of the International Police Organization "Interpol" will be held tomorrow, Thursday, in Istanbul, to elect a new president, as the UAE presents its candidate for the post.

The 89th General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) is considered decisive in the leadership of the leading international institution in the fight against transcontinental crime, so the chances of the UAE candidate, Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, stand out strongly.

Who is Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi?

Al Raisi holds high professional and academic experience, and long experience in the field of police work, where he worked since 1986, in the Abu Dhabi Police, until his name was imposed as a prominent law enforcement officer in the UAE, which qualified him to be trusted to assume the most important international position in his sector.

Al Raisi is currently the Inspector General of the Ministry of Interior in the UAE, a task he has held since his appointment in April 2015, relying on his rich experience in Abu Dhabi Police, especially the General Directorate of Central Operations.

4 decades experience

Major General Al Raisi joined the Abu Dhabi Police in 1980, and after 6 years he became an officer in the Anti-Theft Alert Branch, then Director of the Institute of Forensic Medicine and Science, and Head of the Information Technology Department in the Communications and Information Systems Department, before running the Information and Communications Technology Department.

After a long experience, specifically in 2005, Al Raisi was appointed Director General of Central Operations at the Abu Dhabi Police General Command, in addition to his Department of Electronic Services, at the UAE Ministry of Interior.

Academic track

Al-Raisi began his academic career early, in the field of technical sciences, by obtaining a Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) in 1986, at Otterbin College, Westerville, Ohio, in the United States of America.

Then he resumed the educational path, in 2004, and obtained a diploma (police management), from the University of Cambridge, in the United Kingdom, and returned to London in 2010, to obtain a master’s in business administration (innovative management), from Coventry University.

Al Raisi culminated his academic career in 2013 by obtaining a PhD in Police, Security and Community Safety from London Metropolitan University, UK.

Honors and Awards

Al Raisi received dozens of medals and awards, locally and internationally, in appreciation of his nationally acclaimed contributions and his role in transferring the UAE experience abroad.

Locally, Al Raisi won the Mohammed bin Rashid Award, the Abu Dhabi Award for Government Excellence, and several other awards.

Outside the country, Al Raisi has led the UAE Search and Rescue Team, to the Medal of Excellence, after obtaining a UN-INSARAG External (IEC) rating, ranking first among other search and rescue teams across the Middle East and Africa.

He also received the prestigious Gold Stevie Award, in 2014, and the Outstanding Identity Achievement Award, 2007 People's Identity Awards, in Milan, for his effective contribution to the iris and faceprint system project.

Experience inside INTERPOL

As he applies for the presidency of Interpol, Major General Al Raisi relies on experience in the corridors of the international organization; He is an active member of the organization's executive committee, where he has been representing Asia for the past three years.

This is an experience that enabled him to work closely with the President of INTERPOL and the Secretary General of the organization to support and update its organizational structure, procedures and methods of work.
