Google collaborated with Samsung on Wear OS 3, as it was announced at this year's Unpacked conference.
The collaboration between the two companies comes in the form of a hybrid platform that combines the features of Tizen as well as WearOS applications.
So you can access WearOS apps and the Google Play Store on Samsung watches, and Google is also benefiting from Samsung's expertise in adapting the battery and making it last longer.
But according to Google's new statement, Wear OS 3 will not reach all smartwatches.

In the past, Google relied on Wear OS 2, which was released with watches from third-party companies that obtained a license to use it from Google.
Wear OS differs from the systems used by Chinese watch companies such as Honor, OnePlus, and others.
You'd find Wear OS 2 in Fossil and TicWatch watches, and watches that used Snapdragon Wear processors.

Qualcomm has also stated that the Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor can run Wear OS 3, but Google seems to have a different opinion.
Google has announced that the system will not reach the old Fossil watches in addition to the old Samsung watches as well.

This means that the new Fossil watches are coming with Wear OS 2 before it gets upgraded in mid-2022.
As for the Galaxy Watch 4, it will be released at the end of this year with the system directly, without the need to upgrade it later.
And it seems that Google decided to abandon the old smartwatches to join the graveyard of services that Google previously killed.

The new update from Google requires returning the watch to factory settings, deleting all applications and data stored within it, and then installing the system.
So old watches won't get the update of any kind, and if you want to use Wear OS 3 you need to get a new smartwatch.
