Dr. Ahmed El-Gohary, President of the Egyptian-Japanese University of Science and Technology, affirmed that the philosophy of establishing the Egyptian-Japanese University is to use Japanese educational systems and academic concepts that are based on laboratory methods in learning and education based on research projects, explaining that the Egyptian-Japanese University is the first government research university An Egyptian wholly owned by the state. It is also the first university to bear the name of Japan outside its borders. It was established on the basis of the cultural cooperation agreement between Egypt and Japan, signed in 1983. In 2014, the President of the Republic issued a decree declaring the Egyptian-Japanese University of Science and Technology a public educational facility of a special nature. In its policy to benefit from the Japanese model in active learning based on experimentation, innovation and scientific research, it is also unique in academic specializations, study programs and laboratories that are unparalleled in higher education institutions with the research capabilities available to them, taking into account the added value towards these capabilities for Egyptian researchers, This was followed by the opening of programs for computer science and pharmacy, and soon other programs will be opened, all of which aim to maximize the industrial product on many levels.

He added that the university aims to provide modern academic programs and establish centers of excellence for basic and applied research that serve the local and regional community by building partnerships with the main Japanese academic and research institutions, as well as serving the Egyptian industrial sector to conduct applied research, identify and apply Japanese technologies, indicating that the university laboratories It includes the latest technological devices in the world, as the Japanese International Cooperation Agency “JICA” equipped the university laboratories with the latest technological devices in the world at a cost of $ 37 million. JICA also funds research projects and scientific programs at the university in various fields, including robotics, electrical engineering, communications, electronics and computers. Automation, manufacturing and production engineering, energy engineering, petrochemicals and petroleum, in addition to programs aimed at improving the “quality” of technology management and its applications, with attention to the economic and financing aspects of project management, which is what the country needs in the stage of rebuilding from the giant projects underway throughout the country in its vastness with the diversity of these projects.

Dr. El-Gohary indicated that the university has 10 Japanese experts residing at the university throughout the year, including the first vice president for international relations and the vice president for research affairs. Participation with Egyptian university professors ranges from one week to three months, fully funded by the International Cooperation Agency (JICA), with a total number of working days of 1400 working days / year. Also, a professor of history and Egyptology and four teachers of Japanese language and civilization work at the university with a direct contract with the university, and exchange takes place. students among the 13 major Japanese universities and the Egyptian Japanese University of Science and Technology annually.
