Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, confirmed that information and communications technology creates innovative solutions to alleviate the repercussions of climate change and build a green economy; He pointed out that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and its affiliated parties play an important role in setting green standards with the international community; Where the Ministry participates as a member of the study committee 5 within the International Telecommunication Union, which works to set standards for environmental compliance, recycling economy, reduce climate change and adapt to it, and green purchases, in addition to measuring the carbon footprint of information and communication technology products and services; He called on the pioneers of the information and communication technology industry to partnership and work for a more green and sustainable future.
This came during Dr. Amr Talaat in a session on the mechanisms for building digital policies to deal with the challenges of climate changes, as part of the activities of the World Conference of mobile phones in Barcelona in Spain.
In his speech, Dr. Amr Talaat explained the efforts of the telecommunications and information technology sector in Egypt to consolidate the pillars of work in mitigating the effects of climate change by adopting the environmentally friendly communications and information technology policy in all activities and initiatives for the sector;He pointed out that the communications infrastructure is developed in more than 4,500 villages over three years within the Karima Hayat initiative targeting approximately 58 % of the population of Egypt;Based on the importance of providing communications and Internet tools to the people of villages to enable them to develop.

He explained that a sharing system is being adopted by mobile towers that reduce carbon emissions;As well as spreading solar panels on telecom sites;He pointed to the Ministry's interest in the rational administration file to deal with electronic waste, where joint projects are implemented with international bodies to support this trend in both the government and the private sector, and to enable business leaders, startups and small companies to play an effective role in that.
Dr. Amr Talaat pointed out that, according to (the Global Initiative for Electronic Sustainability Gesi), information and communications technology has the ability to reduce global warming emissions in the world by 20 % by 2030 by helping companies and consumers in smart and energy -saving; Explaining the projects of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to use modern technologies in adapting to climate change, including the guidance of farmers on ways to use responsible for water and other resources through various applications such as the application of the smart assistant for the farmer, and the Kenana Gate online, in addition to implementing a number of projects For groundwater management, cooperation with the Egyptian Meteorological Authority to predict and manage sudden flood paths and mitigate their effects, in addition to working to build a prediction system of weather -backed weather conditions and service of harsh weather alerts based on the geographical location; Noting that the ministry is working to evaluate a number of projects that aim to enable environmental sustainability, including: the use of artificial intelligence to improve energy use based on consumption study as well as in improving traffic and transportation to reduce carbon emissions.
Dr. Amr Talaat affirmed the Egyptian government's welcome to host the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on the upcoming Climate Change COP27 in Sharm El -Sheikh in order to build on the findings of both the COP 26 Conference, Glasgow Climate Charter, and the Paris Climate Convention.
