Since Google launched the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in October, users have been complaining about a slow and unreliable fingerprint scanner that makes it difficult to unlock the phone.
And there are a lot of things that you can enjoy with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices. But fingerprint scanners are not among those things.
The search giant responded to these complaints, while providing an explanation. But no useful solution has been provided. In a response via Twitter, the company attributed the problem to the improved security algorithms used by the fingerprint scanner in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
Google says these security measures can make your fingerprint take longer to verify or require more direct contact with the sensor.
The company provided a link to a support page that isn't much help, along with a suggestion to make sure your fingers are clean and that you're using a finger you registered in the phone.
Responses from other Twitter users indicate that it might be a hardware issue.
The Pixel 6 uses a fingerprint scanner under the screen instead of the fast ultrasonic fingerprint scanner like the Galaxy S21. Which some users say may be the reason behind the poor performance of the sensor.
But other users say that there are phones with optical sensors that work faster, such as the OnePlus 9. This indicates a software problem with Google devices.
There seems to be no obvious solution to the Pixel 6's precise fingerprint scanner at the moment. There is no telling whether the company can correct the problem in a software update. Or whether the scanner's so-called enhanced security system is too picky when it comes to fingerprints.
Until the company decides to revive the face unlock feature, which had its own security flaws, users will have to resort to typing the PIN. Usually, face unlock is not secure without a depth sensor. Facial recognition systems can sometimes be tricked by masks and images.
