New York, USA (CNN)--The US Army's Electronic Command revealed, on Wednesday, details of multiple hacking tools it indicated that the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security used against computer networks "all over the world".
According to a command spokesperson, it is the first time that the US government has explicitly linked the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence to an active spy group known as MuddyWater that in recent years has attempted to steal data from telecom companies and other organizations across the Middle East.
The leadership has released a number of malicious code samples allegedly used by Iranian hackers to help organizations in the United States and elsewhere defend themselves from future hacking attempts.
A spokesperson for Cyber Command declined to comment on whether these hacking tools had been used against US organizations recently.
