Google pushes Samsung into competition with the Apple Watch

Today Samsung's semi-annual conference is taking place. During its activities, the company unveils its new smartphones, along with a number of products and accessories, most notably the new Galaxy Watch 4. Which comes to compete with the Apple Watch.

The new Samsung watches are expected to be a huge success. But the company that will benefit the most from this success will be Google.

For many years, the Apple Watch was the best all-round smartwatch. On the Android side, no competing watches have actually appeared, except for some versions of Samsung watches with the Tizen system that it develops itself. But Google wanted to change this situation, and did not find a better ally than Samsung.

Apple Watch vs Google and Samsung

There are many rumors that Google is developing a smartwatch under the Pixel brand. In addition to the company's acquisition of Fitbit for a huge amount. But despite all this, the beginning will come from Samsung, as its watch will be the first to run on Wear OS.

In fact, the new version of Wear OS, the third version, was developed in collaboration with Samsung. This joint development has allowed Samsung to add the touches that previously succeeded Tizen, while avoiding the usual mistakes of the two companies.

Both Google and Samsung promised better battery life for the Galaxy Watch with Wear OS, a more fluid operating system, a better user experience, along with excellent support for third-party apps.

It can very easily provide a better user experience than previous Wear OS versions. And that's because of how bad these versions are. As for the Tizen system that Samsung relied on in its watches, it was acceptable and superior in many respects. However, his suffering was with the lack of applications that he supports.

This humility in the capabilities of Google's Wear OS system has prompted smartwatch manufacturers such as OnePlus, Realme, Oppo, Huawei and others to develop their own operating systems to serve the purpose. It was offering low performance and a big lack of features.

For all these reasons, Samsung and Google are now under great pressure, because they need to provide solutions to all problems on the one hand, and compete against Apple on the other. The Galaxy Watch 4 may not be able to offer all of this right at launch.

So far, there are no confirmed watches that will come with Watch OS 3 other than the Galaxy Watch 4 and new versions of Fossil. It is not yet known how the older watches will be updated with the first and second versions of this system.

Can Samsung handle the competition alone?

The general picture shows us that smartphone manufacturers are not yet convinced by Google's operating system. Since we haven't heard of any collaboration yet, which will make the Galaxy Watch the only watches with this system for an extended period of time.

Thus, the Galaxy Watch is the direct competitor to the Apple Watch, and the main competitor now from the Android side is Wear OS.

The previous Samsung watches were working perfectly in all respects, especially when connected to a Galaxy phone. But when connected to another Android phone, the experience is worse with the need to install a number of add-ons and applications.

But this situation will change in light of the reliance on Wear OS 3, a system developed from the ground up to work on all watches and integrate with Android itself and not a specific phone.
