Fitbit introduces snoring and noise detection

Google-owned Fitbit has introduced a snoring and noise detection feature to owners of the Sense and Versa 3 smartwatches.

The company first released an experimental snoring detection app for the Versa 2 smartwatch. This feature was then detected in the code for the Fitbit 3.42 update back in May.

When the feature is turned on, it uses the microphone on some of the company's smartwatches to monitor nighttime noise. This includes snoring in addition to your environment.

To enable this feature, Sense and Versa 3 smartwatch owners with a Fitbit Premium subscription can go to the Sleep page within the Fitbit app.

And there should be a "Check Snoring" option, as well as additional information about how the feature works.

And the screen says: The microphone in the watch while you sleep can monitor noise, including snoring, from you or someone next to you.

As for what it monitors for, the company says it looks for the intensity of the sound or how loud your environment and snoring events are.

And any data in the snoring report is displayed in your morning report. In a privacy section, the company also says that users can opt out of the feature and delete snoring and noise data.

As usual, the feature is not intended to diagnose or treat any medical condition. It also appears that the feature drains the battery. The company recommends that you have at least 40 percent of the battery before activating it.

And you should keep in mind that since the feature is just being rolled out, you may not see the option right away. It's also unclear if it's available to Versa 2 owners.

The feature requires a smartwatch with a built-in microphone, which is available on Versa 2, and the initial beta app was also compatible with the device. However, since the device is not the latest generation, it is possible that the company will try to convince customers to upgrade.

Fitbit isn't the only smartwatch maker testing snoring detection. Samsung also launched the feature in the recently launched Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic.

However, Samsung's feature works a little differently. The snoring detection feature is powered by Sleep Cycle, and also requires users to sleep with the microphone pointed at their head. It also allows you to listen to recorded excerpts of snoring.

Fitbit was one of the first companies to introduce in-depth sleep analysis and still has one of the best wearable sleep tracking platforms.

The company is also working to detect prolonged sleep apnea. This is despite the fact that we have not seen any recent updates in this regard.
