Consultant to "Ukath": The Surge of Electronic Games Behind Increasing Hours of Children's Use of Equipment

"Ukath", a professor of endocrine and pediatric diabetes at the King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Professor Abdul Mueen Eid Al-Agha, revealed that the increase and growth in the production of electronic games in the world, especially in the time of Corona, led children to sit in front of electronic devices for hours and longer periods that extend between 7 and 10 hours daily. This is a dangerous rate and is not in accordance with international medical guidelines that specify only two hours for children to use electronic devices.

He said that children spending a large part of their day on mobile phones, tablets, and personal computers have an impact on their educational achievement, in addition to the resulting health damage. Unfortunately, most cases lack guidance. Parents who take care of these devices without their advice and follow-up are also noted. It has also been noted that most families, while busy daily, ignore the monitoring of what children see or play. This represents a dangerous turning point in the light of the existence of open and accessible websites.

He pointed out the need to choose electronic games and useful programmes that promoted ethical and collective action for children, and urged children to play non-electronic games and play outside the home, to devote reading time, to sports clubs, to painting and creative handicrafts.
