Apple's latest redesigned iPad mini was released to the public on Friday, and users started complaining about scrolling issues when using the tablet in portrait mode.
The tablet appears to refresh the left and right halves of its screen at slightly different rates, creating a subtle jelly scrolling effect. but noticeable.
The problem can be seen when scrolling up and down a web page or document relatively slowly. The left side of the screen appears to follow the right side so that paragraphs of text appear rubbery and wobbly to the attentive eye.
The effect makes it appear as if one side of the screen responds faster than the other when the finger is dragged to scroll the page.
Moreover, some users claim that it is annoying to watch and can even cause eye strain.
The problem also seems to affect the screen in landscape mode, where the left and right halves of the screen become the top and bottom halves of the screen.
However, horizontal scrolling is less common in most applications than vertical scrolling, which makes the effect less noticeable. Some users reported not being able to notice the problem in landscape mode.
It is not clear if this problem is caused by the hardware of the iPad mini, or if Apple can fix it with a software update.
In response, the company said that the jelly-scroll problem in the sixth-generation iPad mini is a normal behavior of LCD screens.

Because these monitors update line by line, there is a slight delay between when the lines at the top of the screen and the lines at the bottom refresh. This can cause uneven scrolling issues like those observed on the iPad.
This effect is noticeable on the iPad mini in a way that is not noticeable on other iPads with a 60Hz refresh rate LCD. Like iPad Air 4.
There is also a clear dividing line down the middle of the screen in portrait mode. As noted in testing, this is not an issue isolated to the extreme edges of the screen. But the company does not believe there is a hardware or software problem that needs to be fixed.
